We’ve got a major case of the Mondays at Habitat for Humanity, and that’s a great thing – at least when it comes to the first Monday in October! That’s because it’s World Habitat Day, a day designated by the United Nations General Assembly to recognize the critical importance of shelter. For the past 35 years, World Habitat Day has brought attention and focus to the issue – and it’s a day that Habitat for Humanity takes to heart. On Monday, October 3, 2022, we’ll take time to reflect on our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live, and we’ll re-commit ourselves alongside our global partners to building that world.

But we’ll do more than reflect. We’ll take action, as we always do, to ensure that more of our neighbors at home and around the world secure their basic right to adequate shelter. We’ll engage our community in our work to build new affordable homes, make the crucial repairs that keep people in their homes, and empower people with the financial foundation to become homeowners.

Want to help us celebrate – and make real change – this World Habitat Day? It can be as simple as a trip to the store – the ReStore, that is!

The Habitat ReStore epitomizes the spirit of World Habitat Day. For starters, its proceeds go directly into our programs and services that create new housing, preserve existing housing, and put more people on the path to better housing. Plus, its inventory helps shoppers repair, improve, and beautify their own homes – and do it affordably. What’s more, it keeps tons of usable materials out of our landfill – which means all of us get a better habitat in the offing.

So, pick a day in October to celebrate World Habitat Day with a visit to your local ReStore, where you can make a donation at check-out. You can donate $1, $3, or $5, and you’ll see your donation, and those of other community members, displayed on a bright blue house up on the walls at ReStore. Visit our locations in Oakland, Concord, or San Jose to join the fun!

Or, donate online today! You don’t have to wait for your next ReStore visit to be part of the celebration. Make a donation online using our secure website!
