recycled cotton insulation

Just $3.00 each for 23″ x 32″ x 1.6″ Recycled Cotton Insulation batts at ReStore!

Cotton insulation has a number of advantages when compared to fiberglass insulation. Since cotton insulation is not an irritant like fiberglass, there is no need for a mask or gloves to keep out airborne fibers and prevent irritation during installation.

The content of the insulation now available at ReStore is around 85% recycled material, which comes primarily from recycled denim jeans.

Installation is easy, as cotton batts can be easily cut, or even torn by hand, unlike fiberglass which often requires specialized tools for shaping.

The heat-retention quality, or R-Value, of recycled cotton insulation is also typically greater than fiberglass insulation. This makes it a much more cost-effective way to insulate your home.

ReStores in Oakland, San Jose, and Concord are now offering 23″ x 32″ x 1.6″ batts for just $3.00 each! 84-piece pallets are also available at a discount for $225.

    Dear sir or madam,
Your cotton insulation interests me. I am a student with Trades Orientation Program of San Jose. And my husband and I are slowly renovating our house. I am sharing the information about your cotton insulation with him.
    Thank you,
    Elise Scher

What is the R-Value of this product? Can a pallet be sent to the Ozarks of AR? We are currently scheduling building materials and trades for new residence using rice bales as full exterior wall insulation and would love to use this at base of bale walls instead of collecting animal fur, etc. Many thanks. Hope you and yours are healthy and safe during these crazy times.

    Hi Hannah,

Cotton insulation has an R-value of around 3.7 (RSI-0.65). Sorry to say we don’t currently ship inventory.

Thanks for the well wishes. Best of luck with your project!

What about the weight of the bats? They must be heavier than other forms of insulation.
Are they heavier than, say, cellulose ?

How do I determine whether they would be too heavy for my old house?

    Hi BigRed,

Unfortunately since these are donated product, we have limited information on the weight per batt. They appear to be only slightly more dense than fiberglass insulation.

One option would be to purchase a single batt (only $3) as a sample to take home and compare.
