Spring Cleaning

The post-holiday mess doesn’t seem to be clearing itself, and free weekends to shove everything back into the garage are few and far between. But this year could be different.

Instead of keeping the clutter, hording the decor, and maintaining the mess, you could put all that unwanted stuff to good use. No need for a time-consuming yard sale, or an expensive junk hauler – do your spring cleaning with the ReStore! We pick up accepted donations for free, and you’ll always be sure that your donations are going towards a great cause: affordable housing in the East Bay and Silicon Valley. Just give us a call at (510) 803 3343, or click here to request a pick-up online.

If you have paint, mattresses, or clothing to recycle – check out ReStore Oakland! If you have hazardous waste to dispose of, visit us at ReStore San Jose! Learn more about recycling and hazardous waste services at ReStore.

If you aren’t sure what’s worth keeping, here are some spring cleaning suggestions!

Spring Cleaning

Microwaves

If your resolution for the New Year is to eat healthier, putting your microwave in the past is an essential step. But since it won’t fit in the trash can, give us a call and we will gladly pick it up for you!

Tools

Hand tools and power tools always seem to sit around, becoming duplicates when you get a new set, but staying on the shelf for nostalgia. If you’re stocking up on jigsaws and sanders, consider donating the extras in your collection. We accept drop offs at all of our three locations in Oakland, San Jose, and Concord!

Furniture

Chairs, couches, and tables – if they’re sitting in a basement, garage, or storage unit, you might consider putting them to better use. ReStore will pick them up, sell them at discounted prices, and use the proceeds from those sales to build homes with Habitat for Humanity.

Cabinets

Sometimes the cabinets that come with the house don’t fit with your culinary style. It can be years before we decide it’s time for a change, and it doesn’t help that they can be costly to haul off. But if you can take them off the wall, we’ll take them off your hands free of charge.

Exercise Equipment

Maybe it’s time for an upgrade, or maybe you realized that you’d rather get some fresh air while you work out. Either way, we’ll take the treadmills, stationary bicycles, and elliptical machines that you’re not using and free up that space for something new!

Light Fixtures

If you take spring cleaning as an opportunity to redecorate, remember that the ReStore will gladly take your used lights, lamps, sconces, and chandeliers, as long as they are in good condition.

Desks

When the paper clutter piles up, it might be time for more drawer space in your desk. If spring cleaning leaves you with piles of manila folders and nowhere to put them, consider buying a better desk at the ReStore. And when you get rid of the old one, just let us know and we’ll send a truck to pick it up!

Don’t forget – everything you donate to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore is used to build homes, communities, and hope in East Bay and Silicon Valley. Learn more about our commitment to sustainability and affordable housing in the Bay Area here.

The ReStore does not accept items that are:

  • Damaged
  • Broken
  • Not working
  • Missing parts
  • Rusted
  • Rotting
  • Splintered
